If you’re feeling stuck and confused on your next steps in your love life, career and friendships then hopefully this post will help. When I struggle emotionally, I turn to podcasts and books. I tend to lean into science back techniques and spirituality. Books about positivity and self-help have become increasingly popular over the years, and they have helped me tremendously.

Many books offer practical advice and strategies for improving one’s mindset, behavior, and overall well-being. You can learn how to cultivate a positive mindset, overcome negative thoughts and behaviors, and develop healthy habits that lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. I have read MANY self-help and positive mindset books so you don’t have to! Here are my Top 5 and why I loved them:

Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier by Arthur Brooks & Oprah Winfrey

This book is my newest read and what prompted this blog post because it reminded me of all the work I did and how I can find ways to be happier. It is a read to help you recognize negative patterns and help you to reframe them in a more positive and productive way. It provides a personality test that helps you realize why you may react strongly to certain things. Ultimately it helps you learn to embrace personal growth and reevaluating the things you strive for in life.

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

This book was one of my first self-help books and what I loved was the relatability of her story and how she applied it to her normal daily life. It provided practical strategies for managing stress and anxiety and adding easy to manage tasks daily that build up your happiness over time. By implementing these strategies, I learned to make deposits into my happiness jar in a healthy and productive way, leading to a greater sense of calm and well-being. I recommend this book for the beginner who is looking for achievable tasks toward happiness.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

I read this book during the pandemic when I was home often with minimal lighting and windows and feeling disconnected. Many people I’m sure can relate and I decided I needed help to create more peace in my life. This book was published in 1997 but is still so relevant now. This is heavy on mindfulness and spirituality so if that is “not your thing” then you may not enjoy this but if you are looking to dig deeper and do more self-exploration then I highly recommend this read.

A Manual For Heartache by Cathy Rentzenbrink

This is a moving, warm, and uplifting book that offers solidarity and comfort to anyone going through a painful time and how to live with grief and find joy again. I found that this book can be helpful for anyone dealing with loss and how you can learn to cope with your new reality. Mental health is so important and just like we go to the gym for physical health, we should practice techniques for our mental health and well-being.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I’m not sure if people would expect to find this book on a list like this but The Alchemist is one of those books that if you have never read it, you should. It provides insight on different perspectives on what life should be and how we all need to follow our dreams and find joy in life’s simplicities. I have read this book over 5 times because it is an easy read but also because every time I read it, I find it is impactful in an entirely new way.

These books have collectively help me to set and achieve goals, build positive relationships, and cultivate healthy habits. By implementing these habits and behaviors, you can create a positive and fulfilling life that brings you joy and satisfaction. Positivity and self-help books can also provide a sense of community and support. Many of these books offer online communities or support groups where you can connect with others who are also working to improve their lives. This sense of community and support can be incredibly powerful, as it can help you feel less alone and more motivated to continue working towards your goals. Each of these books have been powerful tools for changing my mind and making me happier.
