Are you tired of waking up with a hangover after a night of drinking? Do you want to explore a new way of socializing without alcohol? Read below to see some of the significant benefits to sobriety.

Here are some benefits of becoming sober:

  1. You’ll save money: Let’s face it, alcohol can be expensive, especially if you’re going out to bars or restaurants. By exploring the sober curious movement, you can save some money and put it towards something more meaningful, like a trip with your besties or a new pair of shoes. I have saved SO MUCH money by not drinking and it also keeps me from staying out too late which also saves my pockets.
  2. You’ll remember your nights out: Have you ever woken up after a night of drinking and couldn’t remember what happened or how you got home? You’ll be able to remember all the fun you had with your friends and won’t have to worry about embarrassing stories coming back to haunt you. This can be an extreme boost to your self-esteem.
  3. You’ll be more present: Alcohol can make you feel disconnected from your surroundings and the people around you. By exploring sobriety, you’ll be more present in the moment and able to fully engage with the people and activities around you. You will start leaning in on people and situations that are best for you because you are not clouded or disconnected from your true self.
  4. You’ll be healthier: Alcohol can have negative effects on your physical and mental health. You’ll be taking care of your body and mind and prioritizing your overall well-being. This really has pushed me to look at other harmful habits and prioritize ME. I don’t hear anyone in the sober curious space discuss sleep but I struggled with falling asleep my entire youth and now I can fall asleep and stay asleep all night. It has been the most amazing part of this journey.
  5. You’ll have fun without alcohol: Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need alcohol to have fun! There are plenty of activities and events that don’t involve alcohol, such as hiking, going to the movies, or attending a sober dance party. You will actually realize how amazing you are sans alcohol!

I’d love to share my experience and this is not a ploy to change anyone’s mind about alcohol but to provide context to a very trendy term. I originally started this journey to lose weight and it turned into reassessing alcohol’s place in my life. Drinking was a right of passage, once you were of age to drink, you did it for celebratory occasions like weddings and birthdays but also sad occasions like funerals. As a gave up alcohol, I started to realize that I no longer needed to cling to that desire to drink. I questioned why I so frequently had that desire and how easy it was to lean on alcohol. As I counted the days of sobriety, my self-awareness grew exponentially and my belief in myself and my abilities increased as well. I also gained a better understanding of thoughts and inner motivations in daily life. I was quite shocked at how productive I became as a result.
